Lutes' Summer Jazz Series!
Jazz has been happening for a number of Summers over the years at Lutes Casino in Historic Downtown Yuma, but last year was the first for the Lutes' Summer Jazz Series. The 2014 Series, which will feature the Yuma Jazz Company Quintet along with guest artists, will consist of seven events, every other Friday, 7 to 9pm, May 30 through August 22, at the engaging eatery, located at 221 S Main Street. There will be no cover charge for the performances, which will be presented by Lutes' Casino, and sponsored by Yuma’s Public Radio station, KAWC FM / AM.
2014 Lutes Summer Jazz Series events:
May 30 - Drummer Robby Carrillo performs with the Yuma Jazz Company Quintet to open the series. A former student at Yuma High School and Arizona Western College, Robby now lives and is an in demand drummer in the Phoenix area.
June 13 - A former Yuma area music educator now residing in Phoenix, Lisa Dabrowski will sing some of her favorite tunes with the YJC quintet. In addition to the Quintet, Lisa has performed in Yuma previously with the Arizona Western College Jazz Band and the Yuma Big Band.
June 27 - Eloisa Arviso, who is known locally for singing and playing sax with the popular duo Jason & Elle, will perform. Eloisa is a music instructor at JAM University in Yuma and is always a hit when performing at the Village Jazz Series, singing with her husband Jason and occasionally with the Yuma Big Band.
July 11 - Longtime local piano stylist Jimmy Caves will perform with the YJC quintet. Jimmy has impressed and entertained audiences in a variety of venues and settings since the 1970s – always in his own impeccable, engaging style.
July 25 - The Yuma Jazz Company Quintet will be featured this evening, performing original music from the group's 3 CDs along with well-known favorites of Latin, straight-ahead, and contemporary jazz.
August 8 - Local vocalist and educator at Arizona Western College Naomi DeVries Pomerantz will sing a few of her preferred tunes with the YJC Quintet. Naomi has extensive professional solo, choral, and musical theater performance experience, mainly in Washington DC, New York City, and Pittsburgh.
August 22 - Closing the Series in exciting fashion, the Yuma Jazz Company Quintet will perform original music as well as mainstays of 'America’s Art Form'. No matter the tune, the popular group plays with a spontaneity which is infectious.

Humane Society of Yuma's annual Fur Ball
An elegant annual event that YJC always looks forward to, the Fur Ball is a 'must attend' kind of affair with outstanding food, opulent decor, an auction, and great live music.
