The Yuma Jazz Company has been performing in SW Arizona since the summer of 2002. We have had the opportunity to provide entertainment and background music for a wide variety of events sponsored by organizations such as:
Arizona Community Foundation, Arizona Western College, Ballet Yuma, Bureau Of Reclamation, Cultural Council Of Yuma, City Of Yuma, Heritage Festivals, Yuma Art Center, Yuma Catholic High School, Yuma Convention And Visitors Bureau, Yuma County Health Department, Yuma Palms Regional Center, Yuma Regional Medical Center, Yuma Rotary, University Of Phoenix.
Along with the larger functions, the group plays regularly for private functions - dinners, parties, wedding receptions, etc. - and 'open to the public' concerts.
Following is a partial list of public concert series YJC has performed along with the events' sponsors:
The Village Jazz Series Presented by Yuma Palms Regional Center and organised by Yumajazz, this series of 11 Thursday evening concerts was the first actual jazz series in Yuma. Held in the Village area of Yuma Palms, the series features the YJC Quintet and other outstanding groups from Yuma, Phoenix, and El Centro, CA. Warmly received and well attended in its first two years, the Village Jazz Series has become a popular annual occurrence.
Julieanna's Patio Cafe This award-winning local restaurant had the YJC Trio and Quartet entertain, and the past couple of years has had a full schedule of Quintet performances - audiences love it! "Yuma's Best Romantic Dining" seems to be a perfect fit for sophisticated live jazz.
Live At Lutes' For a number of years now, Yuma's historic Lutes' Casino has had the quintet perform a series of summer concerts. During the summer, THI IS the jazz scene! The atmosphere is cool and casual (beat the heat!) and Lutes' is always a fun place to play.
Red Hot Jazz Put on twice by the City Of Yuma, this annual event combined the music of YJC and original choreography by local dance company Jazz Of Yuma. Not brought back by the City's Art Center, it's combination of original, local music and dance is the type of production that should be featured at such a venue.
The Terrace Concerts YJC played a series of concerts at this beautiful restaurant beginning with it's Grand Opening in November of '04. This was also the scene of the group's CD release party for Shades After Dark. The Terrace, however, is no more. Do to its owner's health issues, the restaurant's space, at Yuma's Shilo Inn, will be operated by the Shilo as The Yuma Grill.
Pop A Top This local bar has brought the quintet in to perform on a number of occasions over the past few years to add a 'great live music' atmosphere. They even break out free appetizers.
The Ramada Inn In the summer of '03, the group's popularity started to gain momentum. YJC played a six concert series here with an increasing crowd size each performance. This series was in effect sponsored by the group itself, renting space from the hotel in order to put on concerts and sell tickets.
St. Paul's Cultural Center It all started here - a concert series in 2002 sponsored by the center's owners, Jay and Tina Clark. The group (and the Clarks) made very little money, but it was a start and a great experience.
